      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Posted episode 2. Doom and I explore, I learn about the new food mechanics in build 79, and Doom learns about ... well, everything.
  2. Maize/Sugarcane question.

I'm on board with the philosophy Kitty is describing. I like how in my first few seasons, I lost my crops in late spring because of a cold snap and I had to plant them all again. Then I lost some of the less hardy ones in the fall before I could harvest them. If I had starved that winter, it would have sucked, but I was fine and I had to start over the following year with what I had learned. It's the kind of "tough love" experience that enriches the game in the way it was meant to. Actually, along those lines, it feels cheaty to be checking F3 for the temperature. [Goes to "Suggestions" section to see if in-game thermometer has been proposed.]
  3. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

I do a final goodbye tour to recap the series and show the finished house. This is the end of this season. Season 2 starting up soon in build 79 - with friends!
  4. UPDATED 11/3/14: Here's my let's play, started a few months ago. I'm into survival and building beautiful houses. So with the TFC mechanics, blocks and chisel, this is definitely my kind of mod! The link here is to the whole playlist, but go to the replies for the latest episodes. I just wrapped up the series for build 78 and I'm starting a new one very soon for build 79. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGWb0-RJC-F_Rnv7a_Y0DqYZpcxOQWfZ4
  5. I wish could die of thirst

I really like the feel of starving in Crash Landing, but I agree it's a little too quick and punishing for TFC gameplay. That said, one thing I think is missing from MC mods is a strong signal that your food is running low. In CL, there are text warnings along with the hunger bar. In TFC, there is really just the hunger bar. I feel like these are inadequate - in TFC, I often find myself mining or working on a build or really just going about my business and suddenly I'm starving before I even realized it. This would never happen IRL because I am well aware when I'm hungry. I don't have to actively check if I'm hungry all the time. I wouldn't mind a more obvious visual signal, or better yet, an audible cue that hunger is running low. It would be cool to have a sound play that sounds like a rumbly stomach when the hunger bar is down to 20% or something. Or maybe it plays once at 50%, then gets progressively more frequent as hunger goes down. Something similar would be nice for thirst, too, but the slowness debuff isn't a bad signal. My point being, I don't know if a red screen is ideal, but some kinds of signals before debuffs would improve gameplay and realism IMO.
  6. Vary casting quantities

I like this idea. I don't see anything wrong with 50 units or 150 units per item. We're not really talking in terms of ingots if we're just casting from melted metal in tool molds. The only reason that's really a standard unit in the casting age is because all the tools are currently the same as one ingot. If we changed that, which is the proposal here, you wouldn't just be thinking in terms of ingots / exact multiples of 100 units, would you?
  7. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

I've been messing with build 79 and trying to set up a different new series, so it's been a while. But the wrap-up of Season 1 continues:
  8. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

With build 79 out now, it's time I wrap things up on this season. Here's the beginning of the end. The modern farmhouse is almost done:
  9. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

Pardon the interruption into all the TerraFirmaCrack viewing, but here's the latest in my series:
  10. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

Friday = New episode! I'm in search of graphite, and I don't know when or if I'll find it, so no real plans for this episode. I think that frees me up to just make it a pretty entertaining episode:
  11. Hey guys, I made another walkthrough. This one is geared toward anyone not familiar with the mod and it focusses on how to get and utilize food, water and shelter in the first day or so. It's meant to complement my other two videos on how to get the first metal tools and on TFC weapons/damage. I hope this helps some people!
  12. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

It's another Friday, so another episode! A little armor smithing, then some exploring for minerals ... but I keep making this biggest rookie mistake over and and over. This is what happens when you play TFC on too little sleep.
  13. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

Finally made some real progress on the exterior of my modern farmhouse - also, I didn't burn it down this time:
  14. Sticks

If our torches start burning out in build 79, won't we need sticks more? [stops throwing sticks away after harvesting saplings]
  15. old alpha halloween update

Oh man, this topic really takes me back too. I was pretty excited about that update and disappointed that Notch abandoned the idea. I wouldn't necessarily be a fan of permanent lighting in TFC - since we have mob protection - if we could have lanterns or braziers that we could craft and place, then refill and light after they go out - sort of like fire p-- wait! Can't we make braziers out of fire pits now? I never thought of that. Though they do burn out way too quickly. Maybe if they turned to embers when the fire goes out or something. Well, that got off topic. Anyway, thanks for the nostalgia!
  16. Conditions for Grass Spreading

I have a lot of grass that wasn't spreading AT ALL (it has been years in-game) so I did an experiment. It turns out that at least in 0.79.17, grass won't spread from clay or peat grass blocks. I don't know if that's a bug, or just part of the game. Dirt-based grass spreads just like vanilla. Here is a link to my video experiment.
  17. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

Another Friday, another episode (even though I was on vacation, TFC must go on). First, my parents created an idiot. Second, the idiot played TerraFirmaCraft. Then, this happened:
  18. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

Another Friday, another episode. After very "fruitful" exploration, I still need to make it back alive.
  19. I made another walkthrough, this time about how TFC damage and weapons work. It has some tips for beginners on how to get deal with mobs in the early stages.
  20. I did a little experiment with berry bushes because I've been told they won't give you fruit right away if you move them, that it resets their growth. I wanted to be sure:
  21. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

Another Friday and another episode! Things start off about as bad as possible, but then completely turn around!
  22. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

I posted another episode last week. Another twist of fate at the end.
  23. Here's a test of how the scythe works and how not to lose drops due to disappearing leaf blocks
  24. micmastodon plays Terrafirmacraft

I missed Friday because YouTube was having one of its 'spells' but managed to get this one up on Saturday. I think it's my best video to date, despite the dark turn it takes at the very end . . .
  25. How to use the prospector's pick to find ore veins. I know this has been done, but I want to make more walkthrough videos and I'm still getting the hang of it. So I thought this would be a simple and easy one, but still helpful for beginners. I hope this turns out helpful:
