      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Ore/Mineral generation.

Saltpeter is the bane of anyone whose ever used a propick. I agree that it shouldnt be as common as it is, and share your concerns about ore displacement because of the overabundance of this useless mineral. Perhaps we could have a slight reduction of this boycott the devs have on nickel, and get slightly more of it, and alot less saltpeter
  2. Early Game Overhaul

I love this post. The part about animals being skittish is a great idea. Maybe coupled with the implementation of the rope we could get lasso to still allow for domestication (maybe even disabling the fear AI after a few generations of captive breeding). One might even be able to see ropes, pointed sticks, and hand shovel type instruments being used to create primitive traps for hostile and passive mobs alike XD. Rope should play a more integral roll in the game. Maybe even incorporate it into the armor systems, where they require pauldrons, chest peices, padding (wool?), and bindings made of ropes specific to the tech teir to construct the chest piece. Same with leggings, and the other armors.
  3. Chisel exploit

So I almost feel bad reporting this, but here it is. While doing detail work with a chisel and it runs out, the chisel appears to gain all of its durability back, but when you actually use it or punch a block with it in hand the 'ghost' vanishes. Well if you have two chisels on your quick bar, and you get one of the chisels into this state, then switch to using the other chisel, the act of using a blueprint on a block will consume durability from the ghost chisel indefinitely. Each time the ghost chisel runs out, it simiply refills its durability. I dont know if the order of the chisels or the condition has anything to do with it, but the chisel I was using was to the left of the ghost chisel on the quick bar, and its condition was nearly depleted.
  4. Oh yeah...sluices!

The biggest problem I had with sluices is the small ores. I dont know if its been fixed, but a while back when the bloomery was changed to consume the same amount of charcoal as ore when the ore melts, time had not been taken to consider small ores. As a result, a small ore of copper consumes the same amount of charcoal as a large piece, resulting in like 1/8th-ish the yeild using the same amount of charcoal . Now for surface ores this isnt really an issue cuz you can just pick surface ores from rocks, but I have had a few people tell me that using a sluice on a nickel deposit is wise, because it results in infinte ore, on the rarest ore veins. Ive personally never tried this, but I wouldnt anyway becuase making charcoal is time consuming, and using 8 times as much for an ingot is just silly
  5. New Launcher

Doesnt the launcher come with a BAT file for starting TFC?
  6. An idea for more dangerous cave-ins

I agree with ya Sgt, cave ins should be feared... they shouldnt be an annoyance. As for the helmet thing, I have to disagree... No helmet, no matter how finely made is going to stop your head from being smashed under a few tons of rock
  7. Major framerate issue.

You could also try using some of the incremental GC options for the JVM. If you have good frame rates for a while then all of the sudden it starts to get really slow, it may be the JVM spending to much time in GC. While personally I dont think GC is your issue, it is possible, and I have experienced similar problems with other java applications. This is an article about GC tuning for java, probably way more indepth than you need but here it is http://www.oracle.co...g-6-140523.html. The big part you might wanna toy with is Inremental GC, and the GC ratio. These reduce the amount of time CPU spends collecting garbage. It can cause the app to use more RAM overall, but in some situations can increase your performance otherwise. erm... not sure how it double posted while I was editing...

  9. Optifine with TFC Launcher?

I would imagin all you need to to is to install it to the working directory of the TFC launcher. Unfortunately I dont know what folder it uses. I would look in your %APP DATA% directory if your using windows first. Later tonight I can check and see if I can figure it out.
  10. I started this server to escape griefers and thieves who have ruined my experience on other servers. Its hosted on a dedicated machine, with very low latency. Ill keep the server up to date with the TFC builds as they are released. That may or may not require map resets, but in my experience is typically best to reset the map, so I would expect it. I dont have much by way of rules, but the obvious ones of course: No stealing No griefing Be respectful immature and generally rude people are not welcome. As a side note, and per request of the players on the server, THIS IS NOT A RAIDING SERVER!! I consider raiding stealing. If you want to protect your land and kill people who tresspass, thats fine, along with arranged PVP matches, or PVP out in the wilderness. Spawn killing, raiding, and so on is inappropriate. All I really want to see, is a generally nice atmosphere where people have the OPTION to PVP, and dont have to worry about roving bands of raiders, and people who steal everything they have because they suck at TFC. I havent really had any issues with this so far (my ban list consists of two people who hack), and for that im thankful, but in light of some confusion on the server, I thought I would elaborate a bit on what I mean by No stealing and No griefing. Currently my wife and I am the only admins (mwolfert, Sarahrah89) but ill create an admin class and add people over time. There will be no appeals to bans. If you piss me or my wife off, or violate the rules you will be banned with zero chance of getting unbanned. At some point I think I may white list this server, but for now it will remain open for anyone who wants to join. The server will be available 24/7 barring any catastrophies. Server IP: 24.183.51.239 Mods: TFC smart moving (willing to add more on popular request) Build: 73 Configs: year length is set to 276, the rest is default. 12/27/12 Updated the server to 73 My wife decided she would like to try TFC, so in light of this im bringing the server back online, default port this time. Should be 24/7. I dont plan on resetting the map come build 67, I may wait a few days to see if any minor builds are released though. Same rules and whatnot enjoy!
  11. Sandboxing to kill time

So I thought I would talk quick about some builder sandbox games Ive tried out. Maybe give some people stuff to do while they wait for TFC2. All of these are beta's or alphas so purchase at your own risk Blockscape. I havent really played it much, due to its lack of features, and pretty rough alpha type state, but I have seen many people talk about it here and thought some of you might like to know that the engine has been entirely rewritten for the game. The graphics are even better (if you can believe that) and include stuff like texture blending on regions where stuff like sand and rock meet. The surfaces are no longer just flat planes, but now have curves and other really nice features. A while back the first wiring type stuff was added with a few logical gates, and one or two gimmicks which change state from the 'electricity'. If any of you had heard about this game, now would be a good time to go check it out. While there isnt a snapshot yet which contains these new features, the forum users have been promised one very soon . StarForge. I bought this one a while back and had pretty much written it off because I didnt see much new content on their forums for what seemed like forever, and the alpha they had provided sucked... badly. All that has changed! Last night I redeemed my copy on Steam, and I tried it out for maybe a half our or so before bed, and its starting to really shape up. Its sorta like a FPS meets minecraft, where you can build dig and craft, it seems like the player will have a skill tree implemented at some point in the future (the UI is there, but doesnt currently function) The weapons need a bit of work, but they are getting better, and as of now the game actually has a working fort defense mode which I will be trying out tonight. Darkout. I bought this one recently and havent really gotten much out of it. It was greenlit on Steam, so I got a copy cuz it looked a little interesting. Its sorta like terraria, with that sidescroller thing, only it has research elements, and the mechanics of the game are quite different. Ive played enough to make it slightly more than half way through the tech tiers, and I would have to say its not the greatest game ever (sometimes it fails to keep my attention, because you end up having to wait alot, or grind mindlessly for research points), but I still think its worth a shot if this style of games are up your alley. Gnomoria. Gnomes... lots of them, controlled in an almost RTS type fashion, only there is no need micro management (not that you cant order a gnome to do something), you assign professions to them and let them go about their business. They have RPG elements what with skills associated with certain tasks (mining, smithing, farming, etc) which your gnomes lvl up in over time as they perform the task. Building is a bit difficult, but the tech tree is pretty large, allowing for a lot of variation. The game is excellent, and I recommend it.
  12. [B76] Latest version bugs & FAQ.

heh, I like the sand duping bug and the 'grey goo'... feels like im the only one who got the reference
  13. Black Screen?

Welcome to the forums! I wont be able to help you much because youre on a mac, but I can say that no one else will be able to without a crash report!
  14. Planet Explorers Needs YOU!!!

    damnit now im hungry....
  15. Planet Explorers Needs YOU!!!

I downloaded this game and tried it out the other night. It seems like it could be fun, but I have some issues with it. The whole script thing is sorta stupid, or at least it is early ingame (didnt make it very far yet). It implies that you cant research things, but instead have to aquire a script to create anything new from some NPC or something. The planet I started on was pretty barren, with sorta... oblivion type graphics, which isnt terrible... it just shows its age. It looks like it could be awesome at some point, but for now I think im gunna just wait on this one. Oh and the music... while I like the music, freakin puts me to sleep quicker than a thanksgiving dinner.
  16. Ethics Question

I wouldnt take it, because its theft. I would have to ask one way or the other. In this case the decision is quite easy with your qualifier "you can manage to get by". This, and the fact that its just change implies that we are talking about a small amount of money (laundry loot, or maybe a pack of smokes or something), which means that whatever im going without, is in all likelyhood not very important, so why take it? Male, 26
  17. Let me refer you to my original point. They are not you, you dont share identical experiences, skills, or motivations. Believe it or not, people do behave differently from individual to individual, and their motivations are often times much more complex than simply "they are lazy". I find it troubling that you dont understand this... its like you lack a theory of mind or something :/. You might wanna consider working on your interpersonal skills, especially empathy .
  18. Sandboxing to kill time

I dont know to be honest, but I can say that its gunna kick the ass of terraria^2
  19. Sandboxing to kill time

I would have to have lived my entire life under a rock to not have heard of the awesomeness that is starbound, and some distant, but great day in the future when it comes out, ill probably die of malnutrition at my desk playing this when it comes out.
  20. Sandboxing to kill time

Indeed it does... might have to pick this one up this weekend
  21. @killsert, Well, I never said I was going to write it off . I will without a doubt try TFC2, and may very well enjoy it (with or without the wife ), but given the information I have now, it doesnt seem likely. Whatever I choose to do, im not stubborn enough to go so far as to not even try it. @TK You seem to be pretty knowledgable with computer science, and thats a big plus, but remember youre bias. Alot of people just dont 'get it' when it comes to computers, and trying to do it typically ends in failure. I wouldnt willingly engage in some behavior which has historically ruined my day, or otherwise worked out badly for me unless I absolutely had to. You cant just assume people are lazy because they dont want to try to modify files for a game they enjoy, especially when you know nothing about their technical background. Luckly, this problem in particular will probably just go away when TFC is in FTB.
  22. I know im a bit late to the party, but I would just like to speak my peace on this. I lurk alot, Im a programmer, and my job lets me do dumb stuff, like youtube, and listen to music all day, and sometimes I find myself in need of just, well backing away from whatever im working on and let go for a few minutes. This helps me work through whatever problem im dealing with. I usually use those times to come here and post. At first I started posting discussions / suggestions, but I stopped shortly there after, after seeing most ideas (sometimes spectacularly good ideas), get hashed out by the community, and never spoken of again. After getting over that, and accepting that the suggestions, even if really popular and well hashed out, arent really making it into the game (with a few notabe exceptions), I decided to hang out in IRC, and maybe get to see whats going on with the dev team. While there I learned that Bioxx didnt (dono if he does now) even view these forums unless he had to. We had to rely on dunk, or other people in IRC to relay information to the dev team. To me that meant that dev, through inaction and relying on second hand information, was either too busy or just didnt want to engage much with the community, and the information they were getting was from a single (or a very small number of) interpretation of posts. Watching posts about Dunks homework get 30x the number of views of legitimate suggestions was painful, so I trended away from suggestions and started focusing on support. I tried to be nice, and help people who were being mindnumbingly ignorant, but that scene quickly fell appart as well, because more and more of the posts were simply being replied to with "search the forum" or "stupid noob" or some other really unhelpful, sometimes slanderous attacks on people who were just looking for help. This made it really difficult for me to want to go and help out people who are just having trouble because shortly after a legitmate post, the thread would fill with all these "God TFC is so easy to install, read a book you douche" type posts :/. So now I typically just lurk around, looking for new posts, and usually dont find them. As for TCF2, I read that sea level will be at lvl 16, and im all about mining. That alone really depressed me, but the island chain thing is the worst of all imo. I play this game usually with my wife, and boating is a nightmare, and something she really doesnt want to do, so TFC2 is not something we will be playing. If these things prove to be true, I probably wont play it much, and I know my wife wont at all. As for posts, I wont have much to contribute to the community until 76 comes out, if it ever does... I dont have any solutions, and as of today, im going to continue to just lurk. I just felt like maybe my experiences here since I joined might be identifiable to some of you, and maybe shed some light on what I can only assume is a typical experience for people who come to this forum, and a contributor to its decline.
  23. I don't belive it !

I heard he was a bit of a dick. Doing things like launching slander campaigns against tesla, ruthless business practices, and a boar of a man to work for :/
  24. Terrafirmabeast

    Seconded.
  25. JDK help

No im saying youre a moron.
