      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Crude oil is that sticky black stuff called oil. Also called petroleum.

Mineral oil is the byproduct of petroleum refinement.

Organic (which is actually a misnomer as organic actually means, "containing carbon compounds" and therefore could be applied to any of these) oils are oils that are extracted from recently dead plants and animals.

I am not suggesting the inclusion of petroleum or mineral oils. Those would be way too rare to warrant their development.

really organic refers to hydrocarbons, not just carbon itself. else CCl4 or diamonds would also be organic

Not that rare... Asphalt and tar was explored at surface.

I kinda like the idea of giant tar pits. there could be bones of anceint creatures hidden there and the tar itself could be a liquid that you can swim trough at only 1/2 the speed of lava and would be deadly at more than one block deep. when in deep tar you would slowly be sucked down into it and would not be able to get up and would drown very rapidly. and maybe a freind could pull you out of tar using a fishing rod.

Well, ok... exploration, in english, is finding it. So exploitation.

-facedesk-

I think you mean "observed" or "found"

as in, Asphalt and tar have been observed on the surface.

or

Asphalt and tar have been found on the surface.

Also, just because something appears on the surface doesn't make it common. Look at Europe, a whole fucking continent with no oil to speak of! Same goes for Eastern Asia and the Pacific. Oil (petrol) appears only in places where the conditions were right for plant and animal remains to decompose into what we know today as oil. Taking into consideration the scarcity of Oil on Earth, oil in TFC would be very uncommon, and a player could never see oil in a world, its more likely on a server, but still very uncommon. Plus, why the bloody hell do you need oil in the first place?!
