      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Brass as a tool metal

    Actually, bronze is typically more brittle. But aside from that, I guess I can see. I do like realism, but I just want brass to be useful for something aesthetic then. I need to make my world look better, if I can. Also, will we see these materials be put into other uses than just tools and armor soon then? I'd like to see a few things get utilized. Such as lead for piping (for irrigation or plumbing), brass for instruments, bells, things of the sort, and perhaps as the fittings for certain devices, such as carriages, boats, harnesses, etc. I'd just like to see some more creative uses of metal. Heck, maybe even bigger machines, such as for the processing of wood at a sawmill (for some advantage), or for water powered bellows (to save labor, utilizing water currents to drive a mechanism).

    But it should be able to be used. It's harder than copper. I've got all copper tools now.

    I actually prefer the realistic approach. I feel magic just doesn't make too much sense, and that the realism makes the mod fun and relaxing, and sensible. Also, if I might add, it's one of the most beautiful mods for minecraft. I don't think I've found a texture pack that compares even. I would like to see a few more changes to add to realism though Those being: Brass, I brought this up earlier. If copper can be used, so can brass (it's harder anyway) Less jagged terrain. It's too mountainous. I've never seen a real life area with such common high hills and valleys. It'd be alright, but it's so incredibly steep. Compasses and sextants, along with watches. They helped countless sailors and adventures determine their location on the earth. (the watches were to determine longitude). Larger clocks would work too though, as long as they could be carried in the inventory. More survival portions, those being temperature affecting body heat, and an injury system.

    I started a new TFC server, and it seems like it doesn't work well. A generated world mixed characteristics of vanilla and TFC, while a premade world ported in became completely devoid of all ground blocks, leaving only lava and water, and some trees. Very odd.

    Well ,it gave me TFC items when trying to mess with the trees. The trees generated with vanilla textures, but were functioning like TFC trees. I am currently working on trying to see if the server installation is incorrect.

    But it would be good at the beginning. And brass is harder than copper. If copper is considered to be valid for making tools, brass ought to be too. For instance, I have an area in which I cannot find tin, but can find a whole ton of zinc, and enough copper to work with, although it's still in low supply.

    But I think it'd simply be confusing, and impair progress. We determined the properties of these by examining them, looking at color, luster, etc; and also looking at the properties of the refined metal when melted out from the ore. We lack the ability to do tests like this within TerraFirmaCraft. So there would be no way of identifying. It's just simpler if we allow minerals and ores to be considered as they really are.
  9. Starting Shelters?

    I'm just wondering what you all do. What I used to do before cobblestone became four times as expensive was that I would collect about 80 stones, and a good amount of planks, and build a simple structure, using the planks for the door, the windows, and the roof support. The whole structure was made almost completely of the stone. Now though, with the new update, I dig a hole in the ground, but support the roof in the same way. It just doesn't look quite as pretty.

    There is a difference between hardness and brittleness. Something can be very hard but not at all brittle (like diamond) or very brittle, but not hard at all (like toast). I know these aren't the best examples, but really, something that is brittle is only that way because of points where there is little connectivity between other points near it, and as such, the support structure is too weak to keep the material from breaking apart.
  12. Tin & Zinc Bar Textures.

    Actually, pure tin and zinc are actually a whiteish gray, not a blue tinted metal for either. They are virtually impossible to tell apart when not accounting for physical differences in hardness. As for color, they are pretty much the same.
  13. Hafts and Bones

    This sounds like a good idea. And maybe each tool would be worth a portion of what it is really worth, as in maybe 1 ore less metal than what you normally get for ore, that way you don't just have an infinite supply of metal, because you would loose some metal through wear and tear.
  14. Arctic Expedition

    You know, this might be a little late, but this actually inspired me to attempt to do the same on one of my worlds. On that world, I couldn't find any base metals near the area I spawned in, but once I got past the snow line (not even kidding, it was an exact line), I quickly found some, and set up camp. I've now got a small supply of cassiterite. I plan to set up here, and go further in once I get a good base set up at my site.

    No data is transferred, pages are simply blank with no error message given when the page fails to load. I just wanted to point this out. Also, the launcher isn't loading a file that is needed. Also, you might want to change the size of the logo box. It is misshapen.

    Well, you probably are running a higher resolution than I can then. My monitor only supports up to 1360x768. I'd like something better, but I can manage with what I have now.

  19. Forge Molds

    Thanks for the information. I was not aware of that at all. I would like to see all tools able to be cast at some point, but with harder and harder methods to casting the tool as the metal tier increases.

    I was just thinking about tools are typically made en masse, and remembered that they always do it as a cast process, where you just fill the mold with metal. I was thinking this could be a useful thing to do to make tools easier. You could make it so that it requires a good effort put into making it by chiseling (you need a new interface to allow for some process for chiseling the mold out of a solid stone, the best material available). You would then just pour your molten metal into the mold for it, press the mold together with heavy pressure (maybe a stone on the top and bottom, or something like that), and then remove it when it's solid. It'd have less durability, and the reduction would be increased for flaws as compared to that of the anvil process for the tool, but if done properly, you'll have a mold that'll make perfect tools every time.
  21. TIREDNESS METRE

    I was just thinking of this yesterday. And perhaps, as it progresses, labor becomes less effective, and eventually, you become unable to jump, and move at a slow pace. That, and you'll drown in the ocean once you're tired enough. That's actually a good idea, I think at least.

    Doesn't sound like that bad of an idea to me. The other items from there might be nice too, like the tent, which would look better than putting a bed down in the middle of the wilderness. I'd actually really like to have tents available, maybe made from any type of hide, and of course, wool cloth for the bedding.
  23. Nerfed Bows?

    Do you possibly have a different bow mod at all? Such as Ropes+? Because the damage system is different, and as such, it takes more nominal damage points to kill a mob in TFC. Check that first.
  24. Another thing I could see, just as a cheap and easy idea is either tepees or wigwams as a collapsible form of shelter for short term use.
  25. Wool Clothes! / discussion about warmth.

    Wool doesn't fare well when wet, it holds water. Leather repels water. That's the point of leather. My idea wasn't several different types of armor, I was thinking more of clothing, being separate from armor, with clothing being coats, warm pants, boots, etc. If possible, it might be best if lighter clothing, such as warm wool clothing, could go under armor in a separate slot.
