      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Help finding graphite

I personally have found more kaolinite than I can use, but not a trace of graphite so OP's question here is relevent to my interests. I've actually found garnierite, gold and silver in significant quantities as well, but have no way to advance up the metal progression without the damn graphite. I guess it's just a balancing issue with the rarity, so go figure.
  2. Any chance you could put ExtraFirma on this server? It really is a useful addition, especially for PVP with the crossbow.
  3. Since you're already in the business of expanding stone-age play, do you think you could give ceramic vessels (low capacity) barrel functionality? Also, baskets as low-capacity, pre-metal chests would be cool if you don't want to go for rough-hewn plank chests.
  4. Transportation Infrastructure

Why? Seems like a bit of an arbitrary limit. As for rails, I think the difference should be more in terms of durability than efficiency. True, metal rails will give you a smoother ride, but the advantage mostly comes from the rail's greater strength and this is the reason historically that mine railroads eventually upgraded to iron. Stronger rail allows your track to accomodate greater loads, over longer times, and thusly the wooden track's disadvantage should be its tendandy to break after a certain cumulative weight has passed over it, in addition to a small increase in friction. Historically, the first iron rails were in fact wrought or cast iron strapping attached to wooden rails and I think that would be a nice middle ground to have in TFC between wooden and all-metal rails.
  5. ---------- A good solution for this would be the ability to place any small object on the ground like you can with ceramics.
  6. Well written, thought out post. Great job. I've personally been playing around with the idea of cobblestone being placed like log piles instead of being crafted; And when a stone block is broken by a pick, instead of dropping sprites it turns into cobblestone which can then be picked up by the player. It could get really interesting if the ability to drop rocks as sprites was removed, and you were forced to store them as cobble piles (Ditto with ore). Also, I should add that if recovering resources was made this much more difficult that each "unit" should go much farther then they do now. Hundreds of cubic meters of ore go into a single suit of armor, or bloomery, and likewise with charcoal production. I've got the impression that realistically that's a bit excessive, but it's an acceptable balancing move considering how much stuff you can gather in one go. If you make gathering 2 or 3 cubic meters of ore or stone or wood as difficult as it should be then you should make that much material more useable.
  7. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

    How do you craft bandages?
  8. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

Could you possibly give clay vessels functionality similar to barrels (Liquid storage) so that stone-age leatherworking can be done? If that means only being able to bake a single vessel in a pit kiln I'm perfectly fine with that. Also, baskets as stone age chest equivalents would be cool. Ditto with being able to use clay jugs to mix dough (Unless I'm mistaken now you can only make dough with buckets). Thanks for the addon, it's pretty swell.
  9. [TFC 0.78.X] Terra Duellum v1.7.0

--------- My sentiments exactly. I wish more servers abided by this philosophy but so far every stable TFC server I've played on has used mytown.
  10. [TFC 0.78.X] Terra Duellum v1.7.0

This looks very cool! Seems like it would be a superior replacement for mytown protections. I hope some servers start using this. Good job, keep up the good work.
  11. Better Cave-In Mechanics

  12. -------------------------------------------- Just last night I attempted an engagement only to get "You cannot access things here" spam, damn thing wouldn't even let me shoot through the windows. Trust me here, there are plenty of magic bubbles, and It's no fun. If people don't want pvp, they should either 1. Find a non-pvp focused server or 2. Try to conceal their stuff better. Not rely on a couple of chat commands (Free ones at that) to throw up magical barriers. You could at least make it so mytown costs something.
  13. Better Cave-In Mechanics

This actually is pretty cool, looks better then the current cave-in implimentation quite honestly. Also, I think his tone is somewhat justified after reading the original thread... Hope this or something like it does make it into TFC someday. Good luck to you.
  14. Could you please tone down the mytown protection? The OP kind of implies a PVP focus and I'm all on board for that, but it's kind of difficult when people just hide in their magic bubbles.
  15. Challenge vs. Annoyance

Just read through the entire thread, and I'd just like to say to Mr. Hyena Grin that I find your arguments logically compelling, enjoyable to read, and respectful to whom you're arguing with. And to Sir Shiphty, I'm sorry you're taking this so personally. Anyway, on to the main topic: I would like to chime in here and say that a general overhaul in how minerals are distributed and recovered by the player could be beneficial. If resource distribution is less homogenous (Depending on the rock type, I can typically find enough ore for a bronze colossus in a single chunk or two, digging vertically), and minerals are treated more like rock layers themselves then bits of candy sprinkled at random within a layer, then we can approach a more realistic and varied technique for mineral exploration, I think. If, for example, one could detect traces of a particular mineral throughout the entire rock layer of a particular region, and could see something like this, which is a seam of coal exposed in a natural formation: That it would more or less eliminate the benefits of digging kilometers of 1x2 tunnels for prospecting purposes. The more or less artificial limit on the higher-tier ores spawning in lower layers makes little sense to me; Adhering more closely to real-world geology in these terms would make surface prospecting more viable. I would much rather walk 10 Km along the surface in hopes of seeing an exposed seam of ore in the face of a cliff (Which I've seen in real life more times then I've seen in TFC) then dig an 800 meter tunnel. I could be wrong, but I think many people would agree with me here. The truth is that digging tunnels IRL isn't easy, and the only reasons you'd have to do a whole lot of it is to get valuable rocks out of the ground. I think it'd be grand if the only reason to ever dig close to the bedrock would be if you were following an ore vein. I know I can't speak for everyone here, so sorry if you take offense to my petty whims here. Just food for thought.
  16. Cereal seeds?

Is it possible to obtain seeds from cereal crops? The wiki suggested that simply placing a harvested plant in a crafting grid would yeild seeds, but this doesn't actually work. The grain obtained by using a knife on the plant can't be used as seeds, as far as I can tell.
  17. Challenge vs. Annoyance

I don't think my preferences to be so outlandish. But I do agree that such a feature would not be without contention... I think I will take a poll on it. But that's for a different thread.
  18. Cereal seeds?

Thanks. Seems a little odd that the grain itself can't be used as the seed item, doesn't it? Is such functionality so difficult for the modders to implement?
  19. Challenge vs. Annoyance

This is what I'd like most to see in the game, as a matter of fact. This is my fundamental beef with vanilla minecraft - The "Castle in pocket" problem. However, it's obvious that limiting inventory size without providing the appropriate infrastructure to act as an alternative isn't going to work. That's why I love TFC so much - It's building that infrastructure. We're seeing the foundations for this sort of thing being laid with the clay vessels, which can act to extend a player's storage space in a dynamic fashion. How great would it be if you could no longer vaporize blocks out of the way when digging, to have to actually move them out of the way and put them somewhere? It would make surface constructions far more practical, as it is in real life, and would add a real logistical challenge to a lot of otherwise mundane and (My opinion) uninteresting activities. Of course, a lot of people would disagree with me here (As evidenced by a few replies in this very thread). Such a system would probably make finding minerals, as an example, far more tedious. For such a system to be practical we'd need to see significant changes to worldgen and the way minerals are distributed and found by players. But speaking more generally, I think that providing a logistical challenge is the key to reducing our annoyance/challenge ratio. Force the player to consider alternatives that would have their own distinct advantages and disadvantages. This sort of dynamic is already in place with surface ore nuggets, and I think it works quite well. Instead of digging hundreds of meters underground to find an elusive deposit, the player can simply pick up rocks on the surface and build sluices for a consistent (Albieit low-volume) mineral supply. In the example I gave above with non-vaporizable soil, the player could choose between subterranian and surface construction. Surface construction would be faster and easier, but possibly less secure, and typically more expensive in terms of absolute resources. Subsurface construction would require planning on how to dispose of fill, infrastructure to remove the aforementioned fill, and support structures to prevent collapse (Which is already implemented), but is potentially more secure from attack/detection and can be less expensive in terms of resources. I personally would love to have to account for such logistics when making excavations, but I'm sure plenty of people have shorter attention spans and just want to be able to vaporize 300 m^3 of rock in 5 minutes. My thoughts are that TFC isn't the best choice of a mod for the latter audience.
  20. Black steel alloy

What's the trick to making black steel? I've put all the ingrediants, 2x steel, 1x nickel and 1x black bronze in the metallurgy table in their liquid forms yet it refuses to "mix" so I figure I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. I'm sure some more experienced minecraft metallurgists can shed some light on this conundrum. Thanks for reading.
  21. As I understand it TFC books are able to be written, read and edited by players, however in build 76 this function is bugged or disabled or something. Which is an awful shame, as this could be very useful to record specific meal recepies in a world.
  22. Universal Electricity (aka) Volts and TFC crossover

What are you meaning when you say "Modpack" here? This is just a compilation of seperate mods? Unless you are editing them somehow for compatability I really don't understand why you should bother to make that distinction.
  23. Black steel alloy

    Okay, thanks for the info.

Hey, could you guys please stop the drama? Anyway, is this sudden maintenance the move to the dedicated machine? One can only hope.
