      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. For the first look (i just watched video on game's page) it's just minecraft on steroids (smaller blocks, slopes, etc. + better graphics). But it has big potential.

    What comes out, it will turn out in future.

    Minecraft started new game genre already, that's not the last similiar game we'll see.

    Oh god no, there are already hundreds of minecraft clones and some of them even have similar features to blockscape.

    You point about it being minecraft on steroids .. I'm not so sure.

    The base gameplay mechanics are the same, but just by the merit of it's additional features, I would argue they are apples and oranges. Or more precisely granny smith apples and macintosh apples. They are related (by their genre defined by the core gameplay mechanics) but they are divergent games. It would be a bit like saying that Sonic the Hedgehog is just Super Mario on steroids. At their core, they are both platformers and share a good number of features, but they are divergent to the point where one would not be considered directly related to the other. (Though there is no doubt that the Mario series was the predecessor to all platformers, just as inifiminer was the predecessor to all voxel based building games)

    This may sound slightly condescending, but have you ever actually asked ?

    Think about it this way: If smart moving is now incompatible with TFC, you aren't affecting their popularity, as any TFC users wouldn't be able to install it anyway. If people want just SM, they still have to download the official one as the TFC version would be tied to this mod.

    Any objection they had would be (at least on a logical level) unreasonable, as it does absolutely no harm to their mod. They might want to retain the code for personal reasons, but I can't see the harm in asking in a diplomatic and cautious manner.

    I think that if you explained to them that your user base are big fans of the mod but you are being forced to break compatibility, they would understand and allow you to patch it.

    Just a thought :)

    He never knew his father (never cared to meet him), and his mother died on his 2nd birthday. He was taken in by a street thief named Baraias "the Spider" and raised with a certain skill-set.

    He never escalated beyond petty pickpocketing and burglary, but that didn't stop folk from wanting to see his head on a platter.

    Maudlin grew tired of the city at the age of 34, and decided to leave by ship.

    He burgled ferociously in order to obtain the money necessary, and was soon boarding the ship, eager to leave.

    A little under a year later, and the ship crashes.

    See what came of it.

    Actually, minecraft is one of the few games where I prefer to play pvp :P

    Otherwise, I'm a total carebear .. When I still played wow, my friend had to mock me into duelling him (which admittedly made it all the sweeter when I won :P). But yeah, usually I'm pve all the way :L

  5. Ah fudgecookies.... First you take away my multicore rendendering from optifine, now you take Smart move... (Grumpy sigh) Is there a way to truncate parts of it (optifine), so that certain FPS enhancing features would still be compatible? i have Six cores, and i tired of only being able to really use One to render my world.

    I feel your pain bro .. I'm running an AMD phenom 2 x6 1100T .. A whole bunch of perfectly good cores put to waste :P

    As I said though .. I had already consigned myself to their loss :P

    but what im trying to say is that, instead of adding a bunch of useless or single use shit, they should focus on either fixing, improving or adding new features to the already existing stuff. damn i wish notch were still working on minsraft

    I gave up on vanilla a long time ago .. I've been playing since alpha so I've watched it's steady descent :P

  7. The change is more for the developers.. In 1.2.5 and previous versions the server and the client used entirely different sets of code for everything and you had to mirror everything to get SMP to work. They removed that. You now always just run the server code and the client code just displays the game. That is what is meant by them being the same thing now. Yes there is still single player and multi player, but code/development wise we no longer have to do things twice and keep things in sync to get them to work properly.

    Apologies if this sounds naive, I know nothing about coding. Does that mean all mods are now smp compatible ? (or at least they will be)

  8. oh man if only mojang would listen to us!

    Yeah .. Keep in mind though that we are a minority of players who feel the game isn't hard enough in the ways we do. TFC is a godsend for people like us, but most MC players are just looking for an easy ride .. Personally, I think Mojang should just accept that the reason their game is big is due to the awesome mods available, and actually give the mod creators something which has enough flexibility to basically make their own games :P

    The idea of an engine which the players buy is quite interesting actually :P Mojang could develop MC to lay down the groundwork for mod devs, then players would buy this base engine and download mods for it which they would play :L

    It'd be pretty cool I think :L

  9. k a lttle off topic here but how would one post a picture of something?

    Is it hosted online ? If so, use image tags which are like this (take out the dots .. I put them in to make the tags show up)

    You then right click on the image and select "copy image url" then paste it inbetween the image tags :)

    If it's not hosted online, upload it to a website like Picasa, photobucket, imgur ect, then repeat the above steps :P

  10. alright im a bit confused as to where this topic went, can someone help me out?

    Bioxx and Dunk are planning on making several changes to combat and the health system which will break compatibility with the "Player API" mod. As this is the case, "Smart Moving" will no longer be usable by any TFC players.

  11. part of updating the combat system and health system for foods and medicine and whatnot that Bioxx wants includes editing the base Player files. Doing this breaks compatibility with PlayerAPI which is required for SM

    I understand :) You've got at least one supportive vote on this .. Ultimately, to be everything TFC should be, it will be incompatible with most mods I presume ? I came to terms with that some time ago :P

    I'd rather see you take TFC in it's intended direction than avoid implementing features just to keep a mod compatible :)

  13. yes, yes I know what you mean. The fact that people are willing to burn the place to the ground is exactly the reason we can't add this feature. We can only add features that people will use properly.
