      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Yes.

How about this. Heating the spider eye up, with a glass bottle to catch the condensed poison. Then, you have to heat it up once more to concentrate the poison. Then, you can add water to the poison to dilute it, making the poison weaker, but last longer. Each eye has to either drop less often, or give less poison per eye. I think they should give less poison per eye because they are already quite rare. This poison can be applied to arrows and maybe swords by combining them in a crafting table. The posion will have damage (more depending on the dilution level) and can poison weapons.

You can leave the spider eye fermenting in a glass pot. Or, rats are going to be implemented, then you can collect their toxic slime, but to do this you need a glass bottle and you must right click on a rat. And for the plants, you need a new type of knife that can harvest small leaves (Item) from the poisonous plants and then you can work them with a mortar, some water and some rats slime. You can make this similar to dishes. A random recipe every new world.

rats aren't really walking bags of toxic you know. if you grab a wild rat you should wash your hand not because of "toxic slime" but because you never know where that guy has been! rolling around in a pile of shit and fleas.

Then of course there's the risk of disease. but there's no such thing as toxic slime coming out from rats.

If anything, poison should be used to counter rats.

You know, saliva, toxic in the rats.

And in cats too.

Rats cleaning themselves quite often, actually, so they are clean animals.

Then rats are useless. I would suggest to take a knife and cut its tail, at least the tail, because if you eat it, you have a great chance IE 70% of feeling sick. Then a little chance IE 30% of not feeling sick. This means that with a rat tail you have the 70% chance that what you're going to create will be a poison. Did I explain all well?

In fact there is quite a problem with poisoning rats, that being, they can adpat to the poison and become inmune. Which means every time you give a population of rats poisoned meat to kill them, you are creating a plague of venomous rats :

If you eat a chunk of raw meat from the ground, you have the same chance of feeling sick, I believe. Sickness will come from bacteria, not from poison.

Bacteria can produce poison, especially if you happened to eat Clostridium botulinum, but if rat had them, it will probably be dead itself.

They won't be venomous, they will be resistant.

Fire is the best poison :P It doesn't have antidotes, apart water, strong wind, snow, lack of oxygen...

True, bacteria, true. Then rats are off?

Strongest poison is produced by bacteria. The most poisonous of animals are certain specie of flea beeltes. Then shrooms (amanita), then plants (abrus vine seeds).

All this is when you don't want to eat the stuff you're killed, otherwise you'd rather use paralysing venom.

Yeah, a new category, the mushrooms!

Yeah, rats are so clean they even know how to brush their teeths :P

The poison will be in their saliva some time after they eat, and won't affect them.

*places a minecart on the rail, loads it up with tnt, shoves it off to derail section* there, that should deal with any and all derailers, if not, my Krogan angry face will scare them away *SCARYFACE*

honestly, if a crossbow is implemented, we really should make a chu ko nu-like crossbow that would feature the quiver system, firing in sets, but less power and longer reload than a regular crossbow, which'd be high power and long reload too.

No. Derailing is not ok in this situation. Think of it like this, would you like some on to create a stupid thread about poison after searching but not knowing about this because it's about cross bows not poison?

This thread is not dead. We still have not discussed possible ways of making TFC long bows as a alternative to the vanilla ones, but not completely stupid...

Done! Now back on topic guys!

So should the cross bow be made in parts? And just which parts should be metal?

Yes the cross bow should be parts.

Limbs, made from wood. Stock made from metal, and string made from animal sinew or spider string.

Iirc, dunk said that they will be completely metal with non-metal strings. Which makes the most sense if we're not making wooden crossbows.

How historically common were metal cross bows like this and what was the advantages of these?

In my memory, metal crossbows were not common because the invention of guns came too close after it, but they did exist (arbalests were mainly metal, besides the string and the bending part :D)

the advantage was durability, they would break a lot slower, and a lot more force behind the weapon than even a wooden one, also, it'd serve as a better melee weapon than the regular crossbow, should the need arise (which in those days nearly never happened since you would be dead too fast)
